August Catch-All!
Who: Azula and whoever!
Which: Log + network post + passive dream broadcast
Where: The Wildlands (Plus the network)
What: Uhhhhhh... yeah, she might have turned into a nightmare bird a couple weeks ago and hurt a bunch of people? Toooootally her bad, y'all.
Warnings: She picked up some injuries during the Noctaere fight(s) that are taking some time to heal. Shouldn't be anything too graphic but I will warn for anything gross.

Right. Fire chicken. Got it.
[ Good, she should be upset, it serves her right. But the reason Toph's come out to see her is pretty evident soon enough. The catch. ]
Then why are you out here, hiding like some snivelling gliding mouse?
[ She's not even going to comment on the lackluster 'camping' setup. ]
no subject
She expects some sort of rebuke. Mockery. Taunting. Possibly some misguided attempt at preaching wisdom to her, though she seemed the least likely of the Avatar's band to respond that way.
She's not expecting that question. Why would she even care?]
Aw, have you missed me in town? That's sweet, but you could have just invited me to tea over the journals.
[After a moment, she adds-]
...or perhaps asked somebody to do it for you.
[... She's not sure why her impulse to the odd question is to be flippant and hostile, but it's at least vaguely familiar to her.]
no subject
[ She dismisses that idea almost instantly. Also she doesn't know Azula's contact details. ]
Is that how you treat people that come out to see you? Geeze, no wonder it's so quiet out here. [ She scoofs, faded eyes looking right past Azula, like she's looking through her- wait. ] I said before, I'm not going to pretend I know you.
But that didn't feel like you. Aside from maybe the anger.
I'm surprised a spoiled princess like you has managed to last this long out here, really.
[ Yeah, that anger. No point hiding it now, right? Is it possible she came to make sure Azula was alive and kicking? Nope. She'd never say it. ]
And that wasn't an answer.
no subject
[It comes out a little more snappish than she meant, and she .]
The Fire Nation doesn't produce soft nobility. The Royal Fire Academy for Girls teaches wilderness survival techniques as part of its curriculum.
[She'll let her opinion of Earth Kingdom nobility, by comparison, remain unspoken.]
no subject
[ She is a bit of a loner, after all. Half here time here has just been wandering.
There's a long pause. ]
So, what's going on?
no subject
What's going on is that I'm out here, where you don't need to concern yourself with my activities. And yet here you sit.
[And yet, once again, she finds no satisfaction or vindictive enjoyment in being petty. More quietly, she adds-]
And out here, I won't change again.
no subject
Yeah, not being concerned about your activities has helped me a lot so far.
[ The shoulder to her bandaged arm shrugs, pointedly. Toph stands, letting out a briefly irritated huff. Why is she even out here? This isn't meant to be her problem. But it always ends up being somehow. ]
You need to talk to someone. Hiding out here is just running away.
[ She can't believe she's saying this. ]
I'm around if you want. You know how to find me.
[ Not quite dismissing herself, but she's clearly said her peace, ready to leave if she's not wanted. ]
no subject
... Why do you care?
[It comes out suddenly, unbidden and unmoderated, a sharp and hostile demand that completely wipes away all of her prior smug and controlled demeanor.]
We're not friends. You don't like me. You're not some sentimental fool like-
[... she doesn't finish that sentence.]
What possible reason do you have to care if I live or die out here?
no subject
Because I can tell when people are being genuine. As much as you keep trying to hide it. I can feel you losing control even if you think you're fooling everyone else.
[ She turns back, holding an accusatory squint her way. ]
I didn't like Zuko either. So? Maybe I just want to give you the same chance he got. Since no one else would have given it to him if I wasn't there.
no subject
Well, no. That's how she would think. It's not how Zuko would present himself. Or how they would- Oh, spirits, it must have been a disaster. She could see it now. There might even be a little sales pitch. Maybe he'd rehearsed it beforehand, though of course he'd still botch it, wouldn't he, the helpless fool.
The thought is oddly amusing. Though she hadn't for a moment considered that it might be Toph who persuaded the others to give him a chance.]
... Clearly, I am not Zuko.
no subject
[ She scoffs, eyes rolling like an adult trying to talk to a child. ]
You're way more annoying than he is. Stubborn too. That part I kind of get.
But I don't know why you're trying so hard to be unlikeable.
[ Because that's also usually Toph's thing. Standoffish and rude. She doesn't want to think of the parallels that much. ]
no subject
I'm not trying to be unlikeable, I'm just not desperate to be liked like he was.
[It's... sort of true, anyway. ]
no subject
Are you sure? Cause you're pushing people away even faster than I do.
Kindof impressive.
[ Hey look, a compliment from Toph. Kindof. ]
no subject
[Earthbending jokes! She's so funny, isn't she funny?]
But I've never been one to do things halfway.
[BANTER. AMUSED. Not uncomfortable and avoiding the subject in the slightest. N o p e.]
no subject
[ There's that challenging look again, Toph's a straight shooter. ]
no subject
On further consideration, I think I'm beginning to see what you mean about your ability to alienate people.
no subject
[ She almost sounds chipper, if it wasn't just a little mocking (and a touch self depreciating). Usually because she wants to be... Usually. But that's also besides the point. ]
Really, it's a wonder we've talked as much as we have already. This place is weird. Definitely not boring though.
no subject
[With an audible sneer-]
Clearly, I can even manage with you.
no subject
[ She puffs out some air to blow her bangs aside again. ]
Sounds like you're feeling better already. Jee, what a surprise.
no subject
[She doesn't clarify which statement merits the skepticism.]
But I'm doing fine out here. It's honestly an improvement, in many ways. Until you showed up, it was peaceful.
no subject
[ She shrugs, and once more the offer is there to leave, starting to turn again. ]
Next time I won't make sure you're alive then.
no subject
[She starts to say, but then stops herself- with obvious effort.]
... I don't need your concern or your pity.
no subject
[ Her foot stomps, hands push, and in an instant Azula's stick shelter is smashed to pieces as a smooth stone formation grinds out of the ground.
As the dust settles, a waterproof stone tent is left behind, a bit more spacious, and if Azula dared look away from Toph to see what the fuss was about, by the time she looks back the earthbender is gone.
Else, she's quick to fade into the bushes again. ]
