Saving Christmas
✵ SAVING CHRISTMAS ✵
As the sun sets and the moon rises on Christmas Eve, a strange sound of jingling bells is heard high in the sky as the snow suddenly begins to fall heavily upon the town. A heavy weight of sleep slowly overcomes everyone, and just as their eyes close they'll hear a loud, raging bellow—
Before the words are finished, everyone will suddenly jolt awake and find themselves scattered in a strange looking town called Whoville. Although it looks as if it's supposed to be festive, none of that holiday cheer is evident. The town is completely ransacked with torn up decorations, broken gift boxes and toys. Even its colors seem faded, music distorted and muted.

In the meanwhile, the tapirs appear to inform the Dreamwalkers that they are inside another large dreamscape similar to the one during Halloween. This time, however, an entity called "The Grinch" had suddenly appeared and attacked it, stealing all the presents and leaving everything to ruin as they see now. The tapirs point to a meter floating high in the sky, and although it's not rock bottom, it keeps wavering and lowering as time passes. The Dreamwalkers must help raise the meter to save the dreamscape from turning into a nightmare.
"But the big guy is really angry now," the tapirs chatter among themselves. "If they help fix things, maybe they'll gain a powerful ally!"
Dressed in Christmas themed attire, it will be up to the Dreamwalkers to try and restore the Christmas spirit before the day is ruined forever.
I. HELPING WHOVILLE
The town is an interesting looking place with its unique architecture, bright colors swirling and curving about that it make it look like it could be made of cake or candy instead. It's supposed to be adorned with all manner of Christmas decorations and lights, and yet all of it is missing and instead everything looks so drab and dreary, the colors faded and nary a carol sung. Its tree has also been stripped bare, the presents pilfered, and the much too big Christmas Star gone.

» BONUS: PRESENT DELIVERY. The last objective is to deliver the present to their rightful owners. However, it's possible the Grinch may have tampered the presents, and this will only be revealed upon opening. Players must RNG 0-5 to determine if the recipient likes the present or not.
» BONUS: SPECIAL PRESENTS. There are some special marked boxes that are guarded by present mimics. Get past them to retrieve the present. However, upon touching the box, it will disappear in a poof of orange and be replaced with a pumpkin pie that will help amplify one's dreamotion abilities if eaten.

» BONUS: JUDGMENT. Anyone can throw up decorations, but will it be to the residents' liking? Players must RNG 0-5 to determine what kind of rating their efforts receive.
» BONUS: CHRISTMAS STAR. The original Christmas star was smashed to bits so a new one is in order. Although anything can be used, the Whos do have some preferences on what can be used on the star, even if those materials may be hard to find. Rainbow crystals found in the forest will surely help give the start that glittery feeling; they prefer to have it gold; and it needs to illuminate on its own so some kind of light source is needed.
C. Christmas Carols. Carolers are doing their best, but everyone is stumbling over their verses and instruments are out of tune. A bit of positive reinforcement and Christmas cheer will help sort things out. Those who are musically inclined can lead the way by singing and even creating new songs to help inspire others.
» BONUS: A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS CAROL. In the designated thread, a new carol will be composed by the dreamwalkers. Each one will supply their own verse in response to the previous (click here for example). The thread is only for the verses, but there will be another thread where players can go ham for their characters to comment on the song as it goes on. Anyone can participate multiple times but must wait for another comment to be made first.
II. SANTA'S TOY FACTORY
Just beyond Whoville with just the Winter Forest to separate them is one of Santa's toy factories. It, too, has been attacked and smoke rises from the damaged buildings. With machines malfunctioning, toys are running rampant and everything is chaotic. If not fixed soon, there will not be enough toys for Santa to deliver.
A. Elf Rescue. The Grinch not only stole the presents and destroyed the toys, but they also sabotaged the machines running the factor. Now elves are trapped inside and are in desperate need of rescuing as toys malfunction and start to turn on them. The machines are even trying to box up the elves as gifts instead! Behaving similar to the present mimics, boxes, wrapping paper, and ribbon bounce around in search of anything to wrap up. Dreamwalkers must venture in to try to turn off the machines and rescue the elves without getting turned into a present themselves. The more elves rescued, the more allies gained to fix the factory and more favor earned from Santa.

- Ring Racing. High up in the air is a flying course with rings made of magical frost. Racers must pass through each ring to count, but they must fly quickly. As soon as they approach, the ring will start to contract, and if too late it will close and the racer will be disqualified.
- Sleigh Pulling. This is a contest of strength! Sleighs will be piled high with presents and, if not enough presents are available, large rocks to weigh it down. Each reindeer must then try and pull their sleigh down a simple straight lane to the finish line. Just beware, rogue toys will appear on the track and will need to be dealt with somehow. There are no restrictions—each reindeer can use whatever ability or skill they can think of to help pull the overloaded sleigh. The contest can be 1v1 or 2v2.
- Robot Reindeer. All the excitement does attract many of the reindeer back, but unexpected guests arrive as well—and they're not friendly. Sent by the Grinch, robotic reindeer will suddenly descend from the skies to ruin the festivities. It will be up to the dreamwalkers in their reindeer form to fight back against them—or try to convert them to help out instead.
C. Gingerbread Army. Giant gingerbread men occasionally appear and try to smash through the toy factory, hampering rescue efforts. Fortunately, they are only made of gingerbread and easy to fall apart. Unfortunately, they will not only regrow lost parts but grow from severed parts. Their weak point is the glowing gumdrop located among the many gumdrops on the body, and destroying it will destroy the gingerbread completely.

Exactly! And honestly, serves the present-monsters right for interfering with the holiday.
[For all of her cuteness and the whole ~delicate flower~ aesthetic, at the end of the day HIlda is still a Goneril. They can be pretty ruthless when the situation calls for it.]
I'm sure between magic and some good old-fashioned restraining techniques, we can subdue them no problem. Care to find one of them and give it a try?
no subject
We'll need to be careful until we can. Wouldn't want it to get the jump on us first.
[Tifa wanders over to the dog at the front of the pack pulling the sled and gives him a light scratch on the head.]
Think you can sniff out the next batch for us?
[The dog barks happily, its tail wagging as it looks between the two, as if expecting a treat. That will come later! For now...]
Get on.
no subject
Their faithful companion seems ready to go. Hilda doesn't have treats to share, but she does give the good boy some pets before hopping onto the sled.]
Let's do this!
[And away they go! It isn't long before they arrive at another stack of presents. This time, finding the mimic of the group is easy--it's currently chewing on the corner of the box next to it. In a rare show of initiative, Hilda hops off the sled as it's still stopping and makes a run for the scene.]
We have to hurry, or we're going to end up a present short!
no subject
As soon as the two of them make their approach, the mimic pauses in its chewing, spitting a piece of the torn ribbon from its mouth to turn on them instead as the dog barks at it from behind them. It snaps its teeth, and Tifa pulls Hilda back to a halt.]
Think you can hold onto it while I take off the paper?
[She's pretty dextrous with her hands, and Hilda looks like she could put this box into a damn good headlock. Or boxlock. Whatever!]
no subject
charm stat growthdance lessons she's had to take growing up paid off!Pulling her usual 'oh no, I couldn't, I'm a delicate flower' act doesn't even occur to Hilda. She's strong thanks to being a Goneril, and she can hold down an angry box for as long as Tifa needs. Christmas is at stake here, and she's already too invested. To back out now would be to let people down, and that's worse than putting effort in.]
You can count on me. Let's go on the count of three.
One...
Two...
Three!
[With that, Hilda pounces on the mimic and places her hands down on the top of its box to prevent it from moving around. It hisses and squirms in response, but she keeps it from getting out from under her weight.]
no subject
Easy now...
[As if she's trying to comfort it, but it only hisses in response, trying to open its mouth and snap at Tifa's fingers as they close in on it, and as she snags hold of one of the folded over corners of the paper, she realizes just how gruesome this actually is... for both them and the box. And when she peels it away, it becomes even more evident.
Its shriek is so loud and piercing even under Hilda's hands that Tifa has to cover her ears for a moment. Its teeth gnash and it wriggles even more, but she'll try to be quick...
Except it does catch onto Tifa's hand and holds on with an iron grip.
Oh god...!]
no subject
The mimic defends itself, latching onto her arm. Hilda immediate responds with a strong punch to the top of it.]
Hey! Let go!
[It does not. So Hilda lets go and stomps down on it. Hard.
It collapses under the weight of her boot and stops moving. The trimmings are pretty well damaged by the blow, making all of this for naught.]
Oh, um. Oops?
Are you okay?
no subject
Yeah... Sorry, I thought I had it, but...
[She's more upset that they didn't manage to skin it than she is about anything else. Which is... a bit gruesome.]
It got all wrecked, but... thanks. These boxes can really don't like being messed with.
[She knows.... She knows what these gifts are capable of, and she'd rather not have a replay of earlier inside the factory.]
I wonder if there's a better way to do this?
no subject
I guess there ha to be, since these things are really touchy about trying to take the wrapping off of them.
[How dare they object to being skinned alive!]
Do you think we can just dream up some nice wrapping paper or something? Or maybe, like, use our dreamotion energy to magically fix the paper?
no subject
[That should have been their go-to from the start, but Tifa had gone for the gung-ho punchy method first. It would have worked if it hadn't gotten the up on them like that with its stupid, extremely weird cardboard teeth.
So, she kneels on the ground and draws a box in the snow with her finger.]
All we gotta do is think about it hard enough, and it could happen?
[She's never done this before!!]
no subject
[That's more or less the jist of it, anyway!]
I mean, we have to add our emotional energy to it too, so we need to make sure we're putting positive feelings out into the world. Like happiness and Christmas parties instead of 'I hate these mimics and want to kick them some more.'
[The latter of which, honestly, is much closer to how Hilda is currently feeling. All the more reason to take a moment and concentrate on the fun stuff.]
Close your eyes and imagine what you think a perfect Christmas will be like, and I can try harnessing both of our emotions into some pretty ribbons and paper, okay?
no subject
While I wouldn't mind kicking just one more, I bet we can do it.
[Of course, Tifa has never celebrated Christmas before, but... it's not as if she's never imagined what the perfect-looking gift would look like. So, she closes her eyes and tries to picture it in her head. Something with bright wrapping paper, silver and white, perhaps, with touches of gold. As for the ribbon... red... no, blue! Blue and gold and tied up all neat around the box to form the perfect bow on top.
It isn't much, but it's exactly how she would do it.
And to add a finishing touch, should this work, there will be a yellow lily tucked into the center of the bow, bright and alive and stretching its petals open to the sky.]
no subject
The comment about kicking gets a giggle out of her.]
I promise we can get back to kicking after we make the goods.
[Hilda focuses her own dreamotion energy into whatever it is Tifa is imagining, helping to give it form. Creation is something she's found that she's *quite* adept at, and she's more than happy to lend that affinity to their work here. Soon, the pair conjure up a few rolls of paper with varying patterns of silver, gold, and white, and beautiful blue-and-gold bow with a lily opening out of it.
As the lily blooms, Hilda lets out a cry of delight.]
This is beautiful! I knew we could do it! You even included a flower.
[Hilda leans in to get a closer look at it, although she's cautious enough not to simply pluck it from the ribbon.]
These presents are going to look amazing.
no subject
Just a little personal touch.
[But first, before they get to wrapping, a pink-coloured lily grows near her feet, and she plucks it from the snow to offer to Hilda.]
Here, put this one in yours.
no subject
[Hilda happily accepts the lily and tucks it into the bow of the present she's working on. Tifa's such a good friend to have around. ♥ They'll definitely have to do more fun things together in the future. Hopefully with fewer evil box monsters arounhd.]
Let's get to making the presents look beautiful again so we can take them home!
this feels like a good place to start wrapping! 💕
At least the kids'll be happy.
[That's really what all of this is about at the end of the day, isn't it?]
After this, we've got a Grinch to find.
I agree! Wrapped with a beautiful bow and some flowers. ♥
[That she genuinely enjoys making things pretty like this is a nice bonus, but ultimately it's not about her. It's about the Christmas holiday that this Grinch butthead destroyed.]
I can't wait to show that Grinch a thing or two, that's for sure.
[The two of them continue to chatter as they finish repairing the presents and head back to deliver them to waiting Whoville residents. And from there... the Grinch has a storm headed his way between these two ladies.]
