{ flower festival 2022 }

FLOWER FESTIVAL 2022
The three day Flower Festival has started and the town is covered in blooming flowers, music, smell of good food, and excited atmosphere. Full details on everything can be found here, but an important reminder that this event log doubles as our Test Drive Meme and information can be found in this section.
This means any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in April and will remain in Songerein for the rest of the month of April. However, outside characters can only thread within this log, so for those seriously considering the game, you are welcome to use non-festival prompts for your toplevels. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count April as their first month in the game, so all content will carry over.
IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.
TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open Sunday, April 24th and Applications will open on May 1st. Our application cycles are bi-monthly so the next cycle after won't be until July.

I. FLOWER VIEWING

There are gardens and flowers everywhere, but the main central location for the flower viewing is around the eastern side of town between the treehouses and the outside fields. Here there are plenty of both open and shaded spaces anyone can take to sit back, have a picnic, and enjoy the flowers blooming in the trees and along the ground. Food stalls are stationed by the treehouses for anyone who needs a meal and they provide blankets and picnic baskets as well.

B. Flower Serenade. Although it's meant to be a calm, relaxing affair, the flowers are drinking in the festive atmosphere and now have a tendency to sing their joy. They are especially drawn to any couples and will start to serenade them with…an assortment of "romantic" songs. Some may be persuaded via calm emotions to quiet down to a more melodious hum while others may be a little more obnoxious.

II. ENTERTAINMENT

All along the market square and the riverbank, stores and booths line the streets to provide goods, food, and entertainment for all festival goers.

B. Game booths. Come one, come all! Try out the various carnival games on offer. The game booths can be found lining around the riverbank and while there are many, here are some of the more popular ones:
Pebble Toss. Use dreamotion to change the color of a pebble and toss it into a bucket of water. The bigger the effect on the water, the more points scored. Earn enough points to win a prize!
- Goose Rings. Try to toss a ring around the neck of a goose sculpture. Which is, of course, magically enchanted to move around and dodge the rings. Being a goose, the sculpture is a bit of a jerk; it’s attuned to players’ dreamotion energy and will absolutely move around more as they get frustrated, so keeping one’s cool is important.
Bubble Pop! Use dreamotion darts to pop magical bubbles floating across a board. Can be played alone (score points by popping as many of one color as possible) or competitively (whoever pops the most of their color wins).
- Flighty Flowers. Create colorful paper flowers and use them to craft a floating lantern. The higher and further the lantern flies, the bigger the prize earned. Or, if one is especially creative or creates especially colorful flowers, they may just win a big prize regardless of how high it flies. Players can keep their lanterns if they wish.
- Smash! Toss balls at a series of bottles to try and knock them over. To keep with the theme of the festival, the bottles are tiny terrariums. Thanks to the magic of the festival,, the plants inside the bottles remain undisturbed no matter how many times they’re knocked over.
Swan Boat Races. Find a boating partner and participate in a timed race where you have to navigate through obstacles and try to post the fastest time with fewest penalties. Use dreamotion to get through obstacles like ramps, slow whirlpools that will cause the boat to spin in place, turbulent waters, etc. If not interested in the races, people are welcome to help paint and decorate the swan boats! They have to match the mood of the festival, after all.
III. TREE OF MEMORIES

At the center of town is a giant tree that is as tall as a clock tower and with giant books about as tall as a person hanging off its branches. There are a few attractions set up here and there are also some small owls that fly around and greet anyone who come by. They serve as the "guardians" of the tree, and should anyone try to harm it, they will converge together to form a giant owl to deal with them.
A. Dream Petals. As the Tree's petals fall, anyone who manages to catch one before it hits the ground will find their secret dream reflected on it. It could be something they are longing for or something they wish to keep from anyone. Once the dream's reflection is complete, it will remain on the petal and can be viewed at any time.

C. Soaring Butterflies. Ever wanted to just ride on something huge and enjoy the flight? There are giant butterflies that are large and strong enough to carry up to three people on their backs. These butterflies are actually local to Songerein and brought in by a native Fae. Whether that makes them more or less trustworthy is up to the character, but the butterflies are definitely frisky—and fast.

IV. FINAL DAY

On the third and final day of the festival, the winners of the Flower King and Queen contest are announced. However, there's a huge surprise as everyone finds themselves in a costume. While all contest participants have their own "Royal Court" theme, everyone else will find themselves suddenly dressed like a flower. There are a lot of variations from elegant to downright silly. Best(?) of all, the costumes will stay on until sundown. While parts may be loosened, altered, and removed for a short period of time, the costume will refuse to be changed out of and any attempts will be futile.

Then the creator of the flower crown shows herself, and Hanako looks up at her from where he's gently hovering above the ground. As she explains she made it herself, and that this was a freebie in exchange for a favor, his own expression turns teasing for a moment.]
Ehhh? I was told the best things in life were free. I feel like I've been roped into something, somehow...
[Not that he clearly minds.]
What do you need help with? I'll do what I can to assist.
[He'd probably be glad to help anyway, but he's been given incentive.]
no subject
Nothing too intensive. See, the booths are kind of understaffed today. Turns out, a couple of the employees today decided to run off together, so it'd be me and you helping hand out some lunches and maybe a prize or two for some minor games a few people are playing. Puzzles, mostly.
[ There are so many people out here, today. ]
But, for right now... you ever make a flower crown before?
no subject
Well, it's nice to hear that they're enjoying themselves too. Unfortunate that it's at our expense, but I like making people smile, anyway, so this is no skin off my nose.
[He brightens a bit more, tapping his chin.]
My loyal assistant at home was a very loyal gardening club member. She's taught me a few tricks in how to do so, yes. I'm no expert, but I'll give it my best.
(no subject)
tree of memories, b!
Have you ridden them before?
no subject
But she's very sweet. [ She inclines her head toward the butterfly. ] She wants to give you a ride for sure. Can you sense it, too?
no subject
Thank you!
( the butterfly seems content in the situation, like she's waiting for a signal but is happy to take her time getting there. it's nice. so nene nods with a little him. )
Yeah, I can. Are you gonna stay here...? I don't actually know how this set up works.
(no subject)
sorry for the delay, i got super sick in the middle of the month ;w;

She hummed a little, steps slow and calm. There was no rush to go ahead and be brash about her actions here, so it truly made it even more surprising when she felt something suddenly fall atop of her head. Yae blinked a couple of times, reaching a hand to brush her fingers against the flower crown itself when the culprit to who placed it showed themselves.
Hard to miss it with how the young woman was pacing in front of her in a circle, but it did nothing to stifle the soft chuckle that escaped Yae at those words. ]
May I inquire to what it is you want help with, exactly?
[ Yae WAS a kitsune after all. Very curious and she was absolutely no exception, her ears twitching a little though her gaze never left the woman before her. ]
no subject
Mm, so... [ She claps her hands together as she continues to not explain the situation. ] Do you have experience with wrestling? Arm wrestling, that is.
[ Wearing such a sweet smile, all her hopes and dreams seem to ride on a "yes", if the hopeful glimmering in her gaze is any indication. Though the question seems of little importance, it's definitely obvious Aerith herself has no experience with it. Her arms are twigs. ]
no subject
One didn't carry books, perform shrine rites and duties over the years without gaining considerate muscle. Then there was the whole inhuman factor for one to consider. ]
If you would be so kind as to explain how it can be done, I may be able to assist you with it.
[ The glint in her eyes promised that she was serious about her words, always enjoying when other people underestimated her due to her appearance. ]

It's only once Aerith is kneeling down to collect petals that Lumine wanders over to her in surprise (or maybe she's drawn to Aerith because she seems like she has a nurturing and comforting aura... is that weird??) ]
Excuse me, can you actually communicate with this tree? It doesn't seem like you were talking to yourself just then...
no subject
Mm. [ She wonders how to best respond to that; as the very last of the Ancients, this isn't an easy question to answer. Turning her head back to the girl, she smiles in a warm way. ]
Well, don't we all? [ A yellow lily blooms from ground between them, as if bidden to existence from an unknowable force. ]
no subject
Oh, uhm... I don't think I can, although I like to talk to them sometimes, anyway. [ maybe when she was little she could have a conversation with them, but she's pretty sure by now that was through her strong imagination rather than an ability she'd been blessed with. ]
... Could I learn how? [ she's trying not to look hopeful because she assumed it's a special power from the other's world, but the woman did just say don't we all? so maybe it's a special technique? She feels almost like a child again seeing great magic at work for the first time. ]

She doesn't really understand the context, but she does speak softly, as if not wanting to intrude. ]
. . . Know what? [ Then, as if feeling self-conscious, she adds: ] Let me help you.
[ She seems to drop to her knees in kind, intending to gather the petals with her, though she has no idea what she will see, if anything. She didn't manage to catch these, so it doesn't feel like they are hers. ]
no subject
Turning to face Susato, she offers a kind smile, as if oblivious. ] Hmm? Oh, thanks.
[ Though several of the petals bear such similar verbage, and Susato can now see that the name attached is Zack, Aerith feigns ignorance as she leans a little closer, invading Susato's personal space bubble to ask— ]
You've just got the one?
[ She wants to see it, but thinks better of asking. A far more innocuous petal reads simply, "I wish someday I could win the biggest teddy bear at the game booth!"... Of course, not an inch of these petals seems to hold more than a simplistic wish. ]
Must be way easier to hold onto them, then. But you're protecting it well, I see. Hmm, how about I show you a trick?

Here he is standing there with his arms crossed over his chest. He's dressed as a faun today so he looks like he should fit right in with the theme of the festival. He has horns, and hooves and is wearing an outfit of red and green.]
Huh? Bend down? What do you mean?
[Are they gonna cheat??]
no subject
Well, bend down. That's what I mean! That way, I can get on your shoulders, and we can figure out if we should go south or north or... west?
[ She has no idea which side is west. ]
C'mon, don't you think it's time we try something else to get out?

Oh, my thanks.
[He took it off of his head, only to actually admire her handiwork before promptly putting it back on. She was willing to give it to him, so who was he to decline a gift?]
It's beautiful.
[He cocked his head to the side in response as he watched her pace for a moment.]
One thing? What would that be?
no subject
Well, it's simple. See, earlier, we got the geese up and going for one of the game booths!
[ A beat. ]
And then they escaped!

'Ello there. Nice work you're doing with the bird there. Ya know 'ow to ride it too?
no subject
No. I've never driven anything before.
[ She looks back at it, though, and seems tempted anyway, looking around at everyone else who is simply testing out paddles, and going as far as to decorate the handles of them. ]
...We could try?

Tree of Memories, A
[ As he drags fingers along the ridges of bark, smoothed by many admiring hands, a handful of petals spiral down on a gust of wind to catch on the lapel of his overcoat, the bill of his deerstalker cap, his sleeve cuff. There are words written on each, almost as if insinuated into the delicate veins, and images shift in the light, iridescent. If she cares to snoop, the petals read as follows:
I hope she is well. And a little girl.
I hope we do not part ways again. And the impression of a mustachioed man.
I wish they were here. The text almost looks extra wistful over the image of some very cozy-looking slippers.
He doesn't seem to notice that these petals are anything but ordinary, but he should know better; he's been here for weeks now. Nothing in Songerein (or this modified version thereof) is simply ordinary. ]
Stunning, isn't it?
no subject
Reaching out, to collect falling petals, she does, indeed, snoop. In Aerith's open palm sits the image of two people, and from the renditions pictured of them, she thinks they are deeply beloved.
As for the slippers? ... Well, she's inclined to agree! ]
Here. [ She holds her open palm out to him, with a great deal of ease. ] These are for you. Sorry, I couldn't help myself... [ At least she's understanding of the great disservice she's done. ] Can I ask... this girl... is she your daughter?

But it seems she's happened upon someone who is rather quite suitable for navigating such an endeavor: a suit of armor at ten feet stands helm-high with some of the bushes. At this chance encounter and at her request, that same helm tilts by a degree to regard her. ]
For what purpose, Maiden?
[ His voice is a hollowed, rumbling metallic, as if no physical body actually inhabits the armor. ]
no subject
If we want to get out, we should use the tools at our disposal. So... that suit of armor of your's is pretty tall, huh? Maybe just a few more feet might make it little easier to know if the exit is left or right.
