Saving Christmas
✵ SAVING CHRISTMAS ✵
As the sun sets and the moon rises on Christmas Eve, a strange sound of jingling bells is heard high in the sky as the snow suddenly begins to fall heavily upon the town. A heavy weight of sleep slowly overcomes everyone, and just as their eyes close they'll hear a loud, raging bellow—
Before the words are finished, everyone will suddenly jolt awake and find themselves scattered in a strange looking town called Whoville. Although it looks as if it's supposed to be festive, none of that holiday cheer is evident. The town is completely ransacked with torn up decorations, broken gift boxes and toys. Even its colors seem faded, music distorted and muted.

In the meanwhile, the tapirs appear to inform the Dreamwalkers that they are inside another large dreamscape similar to the one during Halloween. This time, however, an entity called "The Grinch" had suddenly appeared and attacked it, stealing all the presents and leaving everything to ruin as they see now. The tapirs point to a meter floating high in the sky, and although it's not rock bottom, it keeps wavering and lowering as time passes. The Dreamwalkers must help raise the meter to save the dreamscape from turning into a nightmare.
"But the big guy is really angry now," the tapirs chatter among themselves. "If they help fix things, maybe they'll gain a powerful ally!"
Dressed in Christmas themed attire, it will be up to the Dreamwalkers to try and restore the Christmas spirit before the day is ruined forever.
I. HELPING WHOVILLE
The town is an interesting looking place with its unique architecture, bright colors swirling and curving about that it make it look like it could be made of cake or candy instead. It's supposed to be adorned with all manner of Christmas decorations and lights, and yet all of it is missing and instead everything looks so drab and dreary, the colors faded and nary a carol sung. Its tree has also been stripped bare, the presents pilfered, and the much too big Christmas Star gone.

» BONUS: PRESENT DELIVERY. The last objective is to deliver the present to their rightful owners. However, it's possible the Grinch may have tampered the presents, and this will only be revealed upon opening. Players must RNG 0-5 to determine if the recipient likes the present or not.
» BONUS: SPECIAL PRESENTS. There are some special marked boxes that are guarded by present mimics. Get past them to retrieve the present. However, upon touching the box, it will disappear in a poof of orange and be replaced with a pumpkin pie that will help amplify one's dreamotion abilities if eaten.

» BONUS: JUDGMENT. Anyone can throw up decorations, but will it be to the residents' liking? Players must RNG 0-5 to determine what kind of rating their efforts receive.
» BONUS: CHRISTMAS STAR. The original Christmas star was smashed to bits so a new one is in order. Although anything can be used, the Whos do have some preferences on what can be used on the star, even if those materials may be hard to find. Rainbow crystals found in the forest will surely help give the start that glittery feeling; they prefer to have it gold; and it needs to illuminate on its own so some kind of light source is needed.
C. Christmas Carols. Carolers are doing their best, but everyone is stumbling over their verses and instruments are out of tune. A bit of positive reinforcement and Christmas cheer will help sort things out. Those who are musically inclined can lead the way by singing and even creating new songs to help inspire others.
» BONUS: A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS CAROL. In the designated thread, a new carol will be composed by the dreamwalkers. Each one will supply their own verse in response to the previous (click here for example). The thread is only for the verses, but there will be another thread where players can go ham for their characters to comment on the song as it goes on. Anyone can participate multiple times but must wait for another comment to be made first.
II. SANTA'S TOY FACTORY
Just beyond Whoville with just the Winter Forest to separate them is one of Santa's toy factories. It, too, has been attacked and smoke rises from the damaged buildings. With machines malfunctioning, toys are running rampant and everything is chaotic. If not fixed soon, there will not be enough toys for Santa to deliver.
A. Elf Rescue. The Grinch not only stole the presents and destroyed the toys, but they also sabotaged the machines running the factor. Now elves are trapped inside and are in desperate need of rescuing as toys malfunction and start to turn on them. The machines are even trying to box up the elves as gifts instead! Behaving similar to the present mimics, boxes, wrapping paper, and ribbon bounce around in search of anything to wrap up. Dreamwalkers must venture in to try to turn off the machines and rescue the elves without getting turned into a present themselves. The more elves rescued, the more allies gained to fix the factory and more favor earned from Santa.

- Ring Racing. High up in the air is a flying course with rings made of magical frost. Racers must pass through each ring to count, but they must fly quickly. As soon as they approach, the ring will start to contract, and if too late it will close and the racer will be disqualified.
- Sleigh Pulling. This is a contest of strength! Sleighs will be piled high with presents and, if not enough presents are available, large rocks to weigh it down. Each reindeer must then try and pull their sleigh down a simple straight lane to the finish line. Just beware, rogue toys will appear on the track and will need to be dealt with somehow. There are no restrictions—each reindeer can use whatever ability or skill they can think of to help pull the overloaded sleigh. The contest can be 1v1 or 2v2.
- Robot Reindeer. All the excitement does attract many of the reindeer back, but unexpected guests arrive as well—and they're not friendly. Sent by the Grinch, robotic reindeer will suddenly descend from the skies to ruin the festivities. It will be up to the dreamwalkers in their reindeer form to fight back against them—or try to convert them to help out instead.
C. Gingerbread Army. Giant gingerbread men occasionally appear and try to smash through the toy factory, hampering rescue efforts. Fortunately, they are only made of gingerbread and easy to fall apart. Unfortunately, they will not only regrow lost parts but grow from severed parts. Their weak point is the glowing gumdrop located among the many gumdrops on the body, and destroying it will destroy the gingerbread completely.

Holly Jolly Hilda! | Fire Emblem: Three Houses | Open
Dressed as HILDA THE WINTER FAIRY
(thanks, Fire Emblem Heroes), Hilda is contributing to the effort in ways that she finds more fun than laborious.]I. GIFT RETRIEVAL
[Okay, in this case it's less 'fun' and more 'she didn't think it would be this hard.' How difficult could looking for presents and re-packaging them to look nice be? Especially since the dogs pulling the sled are doing all the work. In theory, all Hilda should have to do is grab the presents once the dogs find them.
In practice, some of the presents are horrible little creatures that snarl and snap at her. Shrieking, she is currently bashing one with her oversized candy cane with a surprising amount of strength and skill.]
Ew! [Smack!] Ew! [Whack!] Ew! [Bam!]
You were supposed to be something cute and fun!!
[Maybe come help set her back on track?]
II. FIXING DECORATIONS
[Here is where Hilda shines brightest, literally as well as metaphorically thanks to the dreammotion energy that her cheer at this assignment brings. Make things look pretty? Brighten the mood? These are things she is happy to do. This Grinch guy won't be ruining the festivities on her watch!]
A: [She can be found throughout the town reweaving wreaths, painting baubles, using her dreamotion energy to create strings of lights, and so on, humming to herself all the while. People are free to stop and help her with the creative process or comment on the fact that she's literally glowing. Or, failing that, she'll stop some people as they pass by and ask for their opinion.]
What do you think? More glitter, or would that be too much?
B: [In some cases, she'll stop long enough to bat her eyelashes at someone taller than she is while holding some manner of recently-repaired or created decoration.]
Can you help me hang this? Please?
[She is very short and not willing to find a ladder.]
III. WILDCARD
(( Come at Hilda with whatever holiday shenanigans you'd like! I'm available on plurk at
winter decorations- b
Direct as you will.
[ His hand extends, iron-clad palm upward, as if waiting for a decoration of her choice to be placed in it. ]
no subject
You are the best, thank you! ♥ I was a little that you were just a weird decoration and not actually a person in there.
[Hilda's not familiar enough with Christmas to understand that no, giant suits of armor are not part of the aesthetic.
She hands him a large wreath that she's repaired (and added some ribbons to, because it needed a little extra pizzazz).]
This goes between those two windows up there, just below the roof.
no subject
Somnus takes the wreath in hand, and for such a towering figure that he is, his hold seems rather careful of the care she had taken to fasten each and every ribbon to it. Snow crunches beneath his sabatons, and with but a few steps, he makes it over to where she indicates, holding it up to the window. With iron twine and a hook, he fastens the decoration in place. ]
'Tis a wreath worthy of the winter solstice.
no subject
Perfect! What would I do without you... um... You.
[She hasn't asked his name yet. Whoops.]
And thank you. I just hope the locals like it--I've heard they can be kind of picky about these things.

He grins as he comes to a pause in front of the worktable she's currently occupying, leaning forward to brace his hands against it. In the interest of doing his part to help raise spirits, he's dressed for the occasion, as well— every little bit helps!]
Definitely more glitter. The more the merrier, right? I know you usually say that about people, but I think it counts here, too. The more it sparkles, the more it'll lift people's spirits!
no subject
But in this? His tendency toward excess is absolutely correct.]
You make an excellent point. More glitter it is.
[With a wave of her hand, a fresh coat of glitter covers the ribbon that's woven through the garland she's currently working on. After a few moments of appraisal, she grins.]
Perfect.
I should have you help me make things more often, Baltie.
no subject
Looks great! Can't have too much of a good thing.
[You probably can, but either way, he's not surprised she has a knack for this in the least.]
Hey, you know I'm always happy to lend a hand— bet my enthusiasm would go a long way in getting this place put back to rights! How long you been at this?
no subject
They haven't even been affected by the mistletoe magic yet.]Exactly!
[At least in this. She places her hands on her hips and regards the garland fondly.]
I've been working on decorations for... [She stops to think.] A couple of hours? Time flies when you're having fun and all that, and this is actually fun. It doesn't feel like work at all.
And it'll feel like even less so if I have you helping me out. I appreciate it. ♥

gift retrieval!
She, too, is on the journey to reclaim the gifts, and at some point, had the luck to bump into Hilda so that they could stick together. Maybe for the best, especially with how Tifa's very real antlers adorned with bells she can't remove no matter how hard she tries seems to draw the attention and ire of everything around them... including unruly gift boxes.
So when Hilda takes down one of them, Tifa is quick to join her, her foot swooping in once it's sufficiently destroyed to kick it like a football, away from them and further into the forest.]
That grinch can deal with the cleanup.
no subject
As the mimic flies off into the distance, Hilda can't hide how impressed she is.]
You know what? I agree. Let me him take some responsibility for all this.
[Says the girl who tries to avoid doing exactly that more often than not. But she's not the one who's trying to ruin Christmas here!]
Are the not-evil presents all right?
no subject
[There are several—not enough!—gifts on the sled that they've already managed to collect that she checks on, but her smile fades quickly when she realizes...]
Oh, the wrapping tore off this one...
[One of the dogs whines in response, turning its head so that it can see.]
On top of finding the presents, we might need to look for some new wrapping paper. I don't want to give this gift to someone half-wrapped. Where's the fun in that?
[Unless Hilda comes up with a better idea!]
no subject
[Hilda takes a look at the torn wrapping and frowns a bit at it. If it were a small tear, she might consider just patching it up and covering the damage with a cute bauble, but this is a pretty sizeable rip.]
I completely agree. Presents should be pretty when you give them away. If we don't find any, we can try conjuring some up. Or maybe skinning one of the evil-presents and using that paper instead.
[Too dark? Look, it's not like they're actually alive or anything. Probably.]
Really, I'd like to find this grinch guy and give him a piece of my mind. What kind of grouch wakes up and goes 'you know, I'd love to ruin a holiday today'?? A jerk, that's who.

I agree! Wrapped with a beautiful bow and some flowers. ♥

(Anya is currently weaving back the garlands and assisting in putting the string lights on them through dreamotion magic. Meanwhile, Pooka is picking up any pine corns he could gather and stacking them onto a neat pile for her to use onto the garlands.)
no subject
Yeah, I think so too. After all of this gloom and destruction, they deserve some extra sparkle.
[And with that, she starts sprinkling a bit more glitter onto the set of ornaments she's currently restoring--although the dog running around quickly distracts her.]
This is your dog, right? He's adorable--what's his name?
no subject
(The pup is not taking notice of Hilda getting smitten by his presence while he is doing his pine cone gathering. Who wouldn’t say no to a good boy?)
no subject
[Hilda resists the urge to ask if she can scoop him up and love on him--he has work to do. She's sure she can sneak some pettings in letter.]
I didn't realize people had actual pets here. I've only seen, like, the gummy fish or the stuffed dreamotion dogs that Kanji made. Did you find him here or is he your friend from home?

... Or so she likes to believe. The fact of the matter is, though, that no matter how hard Ori tries to stay focused on whatever task is at hand, she spaces out now and then. Not too much more than what would be usual for her, but still, Hilda's question goes unanswered as Ori finds herself staring down at a wreath that she's holding. ]
no subject
[Poor thing. Whatever she's got on her mind, it must be really bothering her. She's usually so bright and friendly, and Hilda has to admit that this attitude doesn't suit her.
With a soft sight, she leans over the table they're sitting at and gives her friend a soft nudge on the shoulder.]
Are you okay, Ori? You seem really out of it.
no subject
Huh? I'm okay! Oh— I'm sorry, did you ask me a question before that?

Drawing up to a stop near her on a dog sled of his own, Akechi jumps off and summons a sword of dark energy to his side, skewering the nearest mimic with an almost clinical ruthlessness. ]
You little shits aren't even worth our time.
[ Well, his, at least, he still doesn't know how well Hilda can fight. :V ]
no subject
Regardless, the assistance is appreciated. Hilda gives Akechi a grin after he skewers one of the mimics.]
My hero~ ♥
[Before she can fawn any further, the mimic she was fighting squawks, clearly weakened but not quite finished by Hilda's angry bashing before.]
Ugh, seriously?!
[She gives the candy cane a kick with her heel, causing a blade to extend from it to create a large battleaxe. With it, she slices the damned thing in two.]
I hate having to put in that kind of effort.
no subject
He ignores her praise, instead turning his attention to the little trick she pulls with the candy cane - now, that's something he can appreciate more. Though hardly expecting Hilda to transform it into a battleaxe, it does seem to fit her quite well, and she wields it with ease. Well then. ]
A shame. If you put in that kind of effort all the time, you might already be done with these pathetic weaklings.
[ It's also a shame that she doesn't share his bloodlust, but that just means there's more for him. Another mimic leaps forward, a maw of gnarled teeth snapping at him, but he parries it back with the side of his blade. ]

Thank you so, so much! Being tiny can be the pits.
[It’s tough being five-foot-nothing sometimes.]
This needs to go over the door.
